While every parks and protected areas organization has unique priorities, opportunities, and pressures, they are each a part of a larger system with common goals to support the conservation of biological diversity, (re)connect people with nature, and ensure the places, culture, and experiences they care for are effectively and and equitably managed.
The Canadian Parks Collective for Innovation and Leadership (CPCIL) was designed in part to build capacity through collaboration. Informed by decades of collaborative innovation among the members of the Canadian Parks Council, calls for ongoing communities of practice from alumni of the CPC Park Systems Leadership Programs, and the vision of a connected continuum of parks described in the Parks For All Action Plan, we aim to create and support multiple flexible opportunities for parks and protected areas leaders from across jurisdictions, disciplines, and knowledge systems to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another.
The collaboration tools described on this page are intentionally flexible and evolving. We invite wild ideas to work together and encourage you to contact us with yours.
The CPCIL Leadership programs are designed to feed into a growing network of parks and protected areas practitioners, partners, and researchers. We encourage you to share your profile so you can connect with colleagues who may have common experiences or face common challenges.
You can search profiles of registered users of CPCIL.ca and connect by agency, location, areas of expertise, or for the kind of issues they would like to discuss. You can message directly with individuals and create a network of friends — and you can share the topics that matter to you.
To begin, create your own profile page and add a cover photo, biography, details of your work and areas of interests.
Blogs, Events, and Job Postings
The CPCIL platform supports the sharing of ideas, opportunities, and stories. The site includes a page for jobs and other opportunities, an events calendar for CPCIL and collaborator offerings, and a blog feed of articles created by park leaders, scholars, students, and practitioners.
When you register and log in, your CPCIL dashboard is the place to post jobs and other opportunities, share events, join communities of practices and post on forums, and create blog posts of your own.
Forums and Communities of Practice
Forums offer a space to connect within events and communities of practice. There are also forums available by topic or theme.
To start a conversation, select a forum and then create a new topic. You can also respond to a topic started by someone else. If you want to follow conversations or responses, simply subscribe to that topic or forum.
CPCIL Group Pages and Communities of Practice help members to connect with colleagues on topics of mutual interest with a dedicated activity feed, document sharing, and more focused group membership (private or public).
Each group can create a resource page to collect and share resource materials and a group page to host discussions and limited-membership forums. When possible, CPCIL Youth Knowledge Gatherers will support these communities of practice.

Third Tuesday Community of Practice Check-in Calls
CPCIL invites you to join an informal online call on the third Tuesday of each month at 1pm Eastern time to connect with colleagues working on similar issues or opportunities. These open calls begin with a general introduction, after which we will offer series of breakout rooms for collaboration. Community of Practice Check-In Callas are listed on the CPCIL Events Calendar.
