Cultivating Responsible Recreation Practices – a discussion of existing and emerging approaches
We all know that not everybody is as mindful of their outdoor impacts as they ought to be, but how successful are existing education efforts, such as Leave No Trace, and what else can be done to foster more responsible low impact behaviours?Join the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC for a discussion and Q&A with academic Clara-Jane Blye (University of Alberta), Tread Lightly educator Brian Pratt (Four Wheel Drive Association of BC), and “105 Hikes” author and responsible recreation advocate, Stephen Hui, to learn more about best practices in responsible recreation programming and environmental communication for behaviour change.
Panellists will each give a brief presentation about their own initiatives, followed by a facilitated panel discussion and Q&A period, and ending with a live Q&A with the audience.
As we make new summer plans, now is a good time to renew our commitments to responsible recreation and continuous learning. If you’re interested in digging deeper, learning what academic research suggests works and what doesn’t work to encourage behaviour change, and hearing about different perspectives and approaches, we invite you to join us.
