Leaders in Conservation: Prescribed Burns within the Rice Lake Plains
A prescribed burn is a carefully controlled fire deliberately set to a fixed area, only under strict environmental conditions, to accomplish a desired outcome.
The prescribed burns conducted on NCC’s properties are designed to mimic natural fires that once burned through prairie and savanna ecosystems. By burning these fire-adapted ecosystems, the desired outcome is to increase the number of native species while reducing the growth of non-native and/or invasive species as well as undesirable woody vegetation.
Join us virtually to learn more how prescribed burns are being used to restore tall grass habitats within the Rice Lake Plains.
