Why Planetary Health Matters: From Local to Global Leadership

Why Planetary Health Matters: From Local to Global Leadership

The first in a four-part webinar series hosted by Royal Roads University

October 14, 2021 9:00 AM – October 14, 2021 10:00 AMTimezone: PDT

For the first time in history, climate change is the result of human impacts. In the words of Prescott & Logan, planetary health connects the individual to the planet and it encompasses the health of human civilization and the state of the natural systems on which it depends.

The health of the planet is crucial for human survival, and as we can see, its health is in crisis. Mitigating the climate crisis is complex. It isn’t simply a matter of reducing emissions. The field of planetary health recognizes human impacts not only on the environment but, specifically, the impacts that the exploitative practices initiated by colonialism and maintained by capitalism have on the planet’s natural systems. Our human systems – political, economic, and social – shape the future of humanity as it is the Earth’s natural systems that determine the safe environmental limits within which humanity can flourish.

Join Dr. Wanda Krause and Dr. Guy Nasmyth to explore the complexities of our current climate crisis and why planetary health matters.

We encourage you to register even if you are unable to attend. All registrants will receive a link to the webinar recording.

This is the first of a five-episode webinar series, “From Local to Global Leadership,” hosted by the Master of Arts in Global Leadership on-campus and blended programs.
