Grow your career at one of the most unique sites in Calgary!  The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s Conservation Education department is looking for a full time, limited term Coordinator, Conservation Education Experiences to support our education program offerings.  The successful candidate will develop and deliver a range of nature-based programs to corporate, adult, family, and student audiences.  The focus of this role will change depending on the season and will include corporate and family experiences, conservation education programming for students, and supporting the nightly delivery of ZOOLIGHTS.  The ideal candidate is team-oriented and a strong collaborator with both volunteer and staff across the organization.

Start Date: May 5, 2022
End Date: May 5, 2023
What you will do:

Corporate and Family Experiences

Design and deliver conservation programs to corporate, adult and family audiences including team builders, speakers bureau presentations
Incorporate conservation education messaging and activities into programming
Assist with hiring seasonal staff (interviewing, on-boarding, creating work plans)
Develop annual corporate program menu, working with event sales to incorporate client feedback, market trends and conservation education strategies
Track all program bookings from event sales department, coordinating event details and attending meetings with other departments
Supervise volunteers for programs, including training and evaluation of program delivery
Manage programming supply budget
Maintain corporate program statistics, tracking and inventory
Conservation Education

Deliver high quality, formal and informal programs at all age levels in an entertaining and engaging manner
Excellent, positive classroom management and group engagement for a variety of client types
Research and write programs and activities as assigned
Evaluate peers and programs and provide constructive feedback
Maintain and upgrade resource materials
Work with multiple program coordinators on a range of program types
ZOOLIGHTS:

Serve as the event lead 3 to 4 nights per week for the full duration of ZOOLIGHTS
Liaise with volunteer lead and support event staff and volunteers
Troubleshoot and adjust programming components as needed
What you will bring:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Environmental Studies, or Training/Development is required
2 to 4 years’ experience in a related educational role
Proven experience coordinating, developing and delivering programs to both public and corporate audiences
Proven experience designing and executing team-building programs
Demonstrated excellence in terms of attention to detail, organizational skills, customer service, public-speaking and presentation skills
Demonstrated knowledge of environmental issues and conservation practices
Experience supervising, training, and evaluating volunteers and staff
Additional Requirements:

The successful candidate must provide a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search prior to their start date
The successful candidate must have a valid First Aid Certificate
Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Working Conditions:

Ability to work weekends, evenings, and irregular shifts
Long periods of time on feet
Good on-site mobility
Ability to life 30 lbs and pull a wagon of resources around zoo grounds
The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
