Responsible for contributing to and implementing a conservation program that supports our strategic priorities and aligns with our vision of a community that actively cares for the health of our ocean.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Conservation Programs is responsible for the following:
- Supporting the Executive Director and Board of Directors in in developing a conservation strategy
- Implementing the conservation strategy through effective project development and management
- Achieving established goals
- Developing and maintaining relationships with key partners, and local, regional, provincial, and federal agencies
- Identifying and writing grant requests
- Overseeing conservation and restoration projects by coordinating, recruiting, and training volunteers, collecting data, and completing evaluation and reporting
- Developing and maintaining a monitoring and reporting system for projects that ensure best practices in program management and timely reporting according to the criteria and schedules of granting organizations, partners, and stakeholders
- Promoting the vision and objectives of the conservation strategy to government, corporate and individual donors, and key stakeholders
- Representing the organization at approved community, municipal, and partner events (may include evenings and weekends)
- Supervising seasonal staff and volunteers
- Actively participating as a member of the team supporting education programs and our unique collect-hold-release aquarium
- Assisting with development outreach and educational activities such as workshops, seminars, and community events
- Providing on-call support, as required
- Upholding the organization’s vision
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Enthusiasm and passion for conservation work and our mission
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience relevant to environmental conservation
- Demonstrated ability to plan, lead and execute conservation projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ideally including experience communicating with diverse audiences about environmental conservation or related issues
- Excellent organization, planning, and task/time management skills
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite and G-Suite
- Effective budget management skills
- Ability to work outside for extended periods of time under inclement conditions
DESIRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Grant writing and/or grant management experience
- Working knowledge of ocean conservation and associated federal, provincial, and local regulations
- Experience working with a municipal government on natural resource/environmental issues
PADI certification - Experience using ArcGIS to display and analyze data
