Role
Are you a creative individual who can bring public awareness to Alberta’s Provincial Parks? Environment and Parks is looking for someone who can combine their passion for the outdoors with their knowledge of strategic communications principles for our Parks Public Information Strategist.
The Parks Public Information Strategist prepares and distributes park and program information and promotional materials, which include providing related support services and online digital communications via social media, website content and a general online presence. As a key member of the Visitor Experience team, this role performs responsibilities in order to:
Raise awareness of Alberta Parks’ brand pillar values: Discover, Protect, Enjoy and Value.
Enhance the profile of provincial parks and protected areas.
Increase public awareness, stewardship and support of Alberta’s natural heritage and the benefits of preserving this heritage.
Promote nature-based tourism and outdoor recreation and increase visitation to Alberta’s parks & protected areas.
Coordinates, implements and evaluates the social media presence, online communications, internal communications, target public information initiatives and education activities.
Assist with media, education and outreach activities and events, and coordinates visitor’s experience team activities and campaigns.
To be successful in this role, you will be creative, have strong analytical and project planning skills, attention to detail, communication skills and have the ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks. You will interact extensively with the public via social media and stakeholders.
Qualifications
The minimum requirements for this role are:
University graduation in Communications, Public relations, or related field, supplemented by a minimum of 2 years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations, public affairs or public information position.
OR
Diploma in a Communications, Public Relations, or related field, supplemented by a minimum of 4 years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations, public affairs, or public information position.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
Assets:
Demonstrated extensive knowledge of strategic communications principles, techniques, and practices
Demonstrated experience in creating, developing, implementing and evaluating innovative communication plans
Knowledge of the requirements of mass communication media and experience in allied fields such as advertising, printing, graphics, audio-visual, and web-based communications
Knowledge of Alberta’s Parks system and management issues affecting provincial parks
Existing Alberta Parks legislative, regulatory and policy framework, stakeholders, current issues, and theoretical knowledge of policy development and stakeholder consultation

Other Relevant Attributes: Capability for public speaking; ability to navigate high-volume, fast-paced workloads; capacity to manage tight and coinciding timelines.
Salary
$2,613.91 to $3,428.61 bi-weekly: (approximately $66,714 to $87,586 per year)
Notes
These positions work Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM-4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week.

This position will require final candidates to undergo a security clearance.
