Reporting to the Partner Relations Manager and working closely with the Partner Relations Coordinator (Western Canada), the Partner Relations Specialist will be the primary resource for Ocean Wise Seafood partners in Western Canada with a focus on large strategic partnerships in the region. The successful candidate will be flexible, organized, detail-oriented, have strong science communication skills, be able to speak easily about program operations and industry topics in general, lead on a variety of projects and fundraising events, and have a good knowledge of sustainable seafood programs and how businesses within the seafood supply chain operate.

Planning & Development
Providing input to the Partner Relations Manager on the OWS strategic plan;
Working with the Partner Relations Manager to ensure program objectives and goals are met in a timely manner consistent with the overall Strategy;
Ensuring the delivery of key responsibilities as outlined in the individual workplan;
Actively participating in employee goal setting and performance review protocols as required by the organization.
Public & Stakeholder Engagement
Scheduling regular social media posts (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) relevant to OWS, ocean conservation, seafood sustainability, and partner activities;
Writing blog posts to engage the public on OWS activities and seafood sustainability related topics;
Actively seeking opportunities to raise consumer awareness of Ocean Wise, Sustainable Seafood, and partner businesses;
Acting as a spokesperson for OWS on radio, in written media, or television interviews as needed;
Identifying and coordinating awareness raising events hosted by OWS or in collaboration with partners or other groups;
Representing and promoting OWS at various networking, industry, community, and partner events;
Educating industry and consumers with program or sustainable seafood-related presentations and talks at conferences, workshops, cooking demos, etc.
Coordinating and managing volunteers for events in province, as needed;
Preparing talking points, resources, logistics and support for OWS Chef Ambassadors or other keynote speakers representing OWS at public or industry events in the region.
Operations & Monitoring
Conducts and updates seafood audits for partners and approves branding use on recommended items in a timely manner;
Supporting partner businesses in their procurement of sustainable seafood by providing access to alternatives for non-recommended items;
Working with partners to provide support and maximize the partnership potential via collaborations, events, promotions, etc.;
Providing staff training and resources to partners and provide input for the creation of any informational or educational seafood materials needed;
Staying up to date on SFW recommendations and communication of seafood updates;
Maintaining a solid understanding of the sustainable seafood sector and the current issues facing it, from both the economic and scientific perspectives;
Identifying trends and risks in the sustainable seafood sector and providing recommendations and solutions for how to adapt to each scenario based on existing data, trends, and experience.

A successful candidate is likely to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience;
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role or capacity;
Experience working in or with the hospitality, retail, seafood, or fishing industries an asset;
Experience supervising staff, volunteers, or short-term contractors;
Strong background in customer service and successful partner relationship management.
Positive and persuasive communication skills (verbal/written), excellent public speaking skills
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work collaboratively in a team environment
Strong understanding of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture
Demonstrated experience creating professional reports, proposals, and presentations;
Understanding of enterprising non-profits, combining business marketing skills with a passion for making positive change
Ability to multi-task with keen attention to detail
Strong PC skills are necessary as the incumbent uses a PC for a variety of operational, service management and related activities
Knowledge of software such as Salesforce, Canva, Wordfly, WordPress, Falcon and active use of social media is an asset
Active demonstration and passion for the organization’s values, code of conduct, and mission
Standard office environment is provided for candidates located in the Greater Vancouver Area, but remote work or a hybrid model possible
Some local, regional and domestic travel may be required
Position is primarily non-physical in nature however some shifting and lifting of boxes is required and may also involve travel (driving/flying as necessary)
Work is conducted via telephone, meeting with fellow employees daily, remote meetings via online software, and reviewing a significant amount of written or computer-based documentation
Concentration is required while working on computers and verifying the accuracy of documents and reports; there are possible interruptions and unpredictable deadlines and time constraints requiring urgent decisions to be made.
