On November 8th, 2021, the Parks Canada Agency announced the details of its vaccination requirement for all employees.

As per the Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for Parks Canada Agency, employees must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely, or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate, determinate (term), casual, as and when required, and students.

Duties
Heritage Presenters deliver information, interpretive programs and events in a variety of settings that inspire and encourage visitors to enjoy and support the natural and cultural history of the national parks.

Work environment
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Fort St. James National Historic Site, with the largest collection of original fur trade buildings in Canada, its remarkable view out over beautiful Stuart Lake, and authentic, entertaining execution of a day in the summer of 1896, is one of Canada’s premier fur trading posts. Attracting both local and international guests in the summer season, it contributes to a diversified economy and provides community leadership in celebrating and protecting the cultural heritage of Fort St. James. The site offers one of the best opportunities to connect northern British Columbia residents to their nationally significant heritage and to provide them with a Parks Canada experience.

Intent of the process
This process will be used to staff term and/or seasonal positions from May to September 2022.

As this is an inventory, management can decide to access applications at any point so please ensure you submit your application as soon as possible!

This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic requirements in the same or other parts of the country.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or PSC-approved alternatives or an acceptable combination of education, training, experience or traditional knowledge relevant to the position.

EXPERIENCE:
• In paid or volunteer work that entails direct contact and communication with the public;
• In the delivery of front-line communication services.

Various language requirements

KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of communication, presentation and/or interpretive techniques such as storytelling, demonstration, theatre programs or guided walks;
• Knowledge of Canada’s natural and/or cultural heritage as it relates to Fort St. James National Historic Site.

ABILITIES:
• To communicate effectively;
• To provide quality service to visitors;

PERSONAL SUITABILITY/ LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES:

The position requires the incumbent to:

  • Work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays;
  • Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements.
