The Town of Coaldale is an emerging community located in the heart of southern Alberta. With a variety of recreational facilities and a diversity of amenities and tourist attractions, our municipality combines the benefits of small-town living with the service provision of larger urban centers.



The Recreation and Parks Operator carries out maintenance duties for all recreation facilities, parks and green spaces associated with the Town.  Some interdepartmental overlap is necessary. The working hours of this position will vary depending on the season.  Shift work is a requirement of this position. Starting wage for this position will be $25.06/hr-$28.86/hr depending on skills/experience.



  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of Town recreation and parks facilities on a regular basis.
  • This position will reside mostly in the arena from October to March of each year and will be tasked with recreation-related work.  During the months of April to September, this position will be in parks and tasked with parks-related work.
  • Carry out maintenance responsibilities for park facilities, green spaces and equipment, including, but not limited to: turf maintenance, filling gopher holes, maintaining irrigation and other parks infrastructure.
  • Make and maintain ice for the arena and maintain arena facilities.
  • Assist in making regular checks, and assist in undertaking minor repairs and standard maintenance procedures to, Town recreation facilities and related equipment.
  • Ensure recreation facilities and grounds are cleaned on a regular basis.
  • Operate assigned equipment such as but not limited to lawnmowers, weed whips, light tractors, snow blowers, single-axle trucks, Zamboni, etc.
  • Install, maintain, operate and repair irrigation systems at Town parks and green spaces.
  • Water, fertilize and seed boulevards, parks, flower beds, lawns, shrubs and trees.
  • Preparation, planting and maintenance of flowerbeds, shrubs and trees at various Town parks, green areas and grounds.
  • Adhere to Town safety regulations and procedures.
  • Identify and report safety concerns or hazards that are encountered in Town facilities or on Town properties.
  • Perform other duties as required.



  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum one year experience in similar setting.
  • Valid Class 5 Operator’s License.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.


Considered assets but willing to train the right applicant:

  • Arena Operator 1 Certification.
  • Pool Operator 1 Certification.
  •  Parks & Sports Field 1 Certification.
