Protected Area Management Effectiveness Evaluation
I have been an employee of CWS HQ for 21 years (working out of Environment Canada NCR-Gatineau). I was the national coordinator of the Habitat Stewardship Program for Species at Risk funding program (among other EC community funding programs) from 2000-2014, at which time I made the leap to the Protected Areas Program of CWS (which includes National Wildlife Areas and Migratory Bird Sanctuaries). Here in NCR we do the national program policy setting and coordination for the full PA network of 147 sites across the country. In both roles, I have learned the importance of strong relationships with our regional colleagues, as well as the value in productive partnerships with community organizations and collaboration with other levels of government, if we are to achieve our ambitious mandate for wildlife habitat conservation in Canada. I have a MSc in Conservation Ecology (related to recreational use public policy in protected areas) from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science Education from the University of Toronto.
